32nd NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CORNHUSKER TRAPSHOOT SETS NEW RECORD

DONIPHAN, Nebr. -- Heavy downpours on Friday didn't dampen the enthusiasm of 888 junior high school and high school trapshooters attending the 32nd National High School Cornhusker Trapshoot at Doniphan of May 4 and 5, according to Rocky Hoffmann, Cornhusker Trapshoot Director. Nearly 600 senior high school students completed the Cornhusker Trapshoot on Saturday in better weather.
"We received a steady downpour of more than several inches of rain on Friday," Hoffmann said, "but the 289 junior high school and 599 high school students, including 80 ladies, set a new Cornhusker Trapshoot attendence record. Saturday's weather was great and the youngsters from six states and Nebraska shot some tremendous scores."

Tim Keller of Crete won the Cornhusker Cup, presented for the high score over the two day event. Keller shot 188X200. Les Hlavac of Nemaha Valley High School was Coach of the Year.

The annual High School Cornhusker Trapshoot is sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Trapshooting Association, with the support of dedicated volunteers, donors and coaches. The annual trapshoot is held on the home grounds of the Nebraska Trapshooting Association on the north edge of Doniphan.

"The continuing growth of the Cornhusker Trapshoot reflects the popularity of trapshooting on the high school and junior high levels," Hoffmann added. "Trapshooting is a lifetime shooting sport that young people can continue to enjoy after leaving school. Each trapshooter is required to complete the Nebraska Hunter Education course that covers firearm safety and handling, as well as outdoor ethics and sportsmanship."
